Your Gallery Is Worth the Wait

Florida vacation was a success! You had your session, the sunset was beautiful, the kids hopefully gave us at least a few real smiles, and now comes the part everyone is most excited for: getting your photos back. I completely understand the anticipation. After a session, it is so normal to feel excited and wonder, “When will I see them?” But there is a lot that happens behind the scenes before your final gallery is ready.

Why Editing Takes Time

Editing is where your images truly come to life. After your session, I go through every image carefully, choose the best ones, and begin the editing process. Every gallery gets more than a quick preset. I carefully adjust the colors, skin tones, lighting, and overall feel so your images look polished, natural, and cohesive. For me, it usually takes about three solid editing sessions to really get the colors where I want them to be. I like to come back to a gallery with fresh eyes because that is when I notice the little things. Maybe the warmth needs to be adjusted, maybe the greens are pulling too yellow, maybe the skin tones need a little softening, or maybe the whole gallery needs to feel more cohesive. I’ve learned that my best work happens when I have time to step away, come back with fresh eyes, and make thoughtful final adjustments. Those little details are what help your gallery feel finished & beautiful.

Editing Is Part of the Art

Photography does not end when the session is over. Editing is a huge part of the final artwork. This is where I make creative decisions about the warmth, colors, softness, skin tones, and overall feeling of your gallery. I want your images to feel natural, warm, and timeless without looking overly edited or fake. It takes time, patience, and a creative eye. Editing is not just a technical step. It is part of the artwork itself, and it is where I get to bring the feeling of your session to life.

Every Sunset Is Different

While I do have a consistent editing style, it is also important to know that every sunset and every session is different. We have the most beautiful sunsets in Southwest Florida and I love photographing them! The light is never exactly the same. Some nights are soft and pastel, some are golden and glowy, some are bright and crisp, and some have more clouds, haze, wind, or color in the sky. The beach, water, sand, outfits, and weather all affect how the final images look. That is part of the beauty of beach photography. Nature plays a role, and I work with the light we are given that evening to create the best possible final gallery. My goal is always to keep your images true to my warm, natural, timeless style, while also honoring the real light and feeling of your session.

What Is a Proof Gallery?

Before your final images are fully finished, you may receive a proof gallery. A proof gallery is like a first rough draft of your session. These images have been selected and lightly edited enough for you to view them, but they are not the final polished versions yet. The purpose of the proof gallery is to help you choose your favorite images before I spend the more time-consuming editing work on them. Once you select your final images, that is when I go back in and do the more detailed edits. This can include things like removing small distractions, cleaning up stray hairs, removing blemishes, softening skin, adjusting clothing or sand when needed, removing objects in the background, and making sure each final image feels polished and complete. This extra editing takes time because every image is different. Some photos only need a little fine-tuning, while others may need more detailed attention. Sometimes we have the beach to ourselves, sometimes it's Spring Break season and everyone is in town! Removing background distractions and adding those final polished touches takes careful attention. Once you choose your favorite images, I can spend that extra time making sure each final photo feels clean, beautiful, and complete. So if your proof gallery looks a little less “finished” than what you see in my final portfolio, that is completely normal. The proof gallery is meant to help you narrow down your favorites. The final gallery is where the full finishing touches happen.

RAW Images Are Not Finished Photos

One thing many people do not realize is that professional camera files are very different from cell phone photos. When you take a photo on an iPhone, the phone is doing a lot of the work for you instantly. It brightens the image, sharpens it, adjusts the contrast, boosts the colors, smooths certain areas, and gives you a finished-looking photo right away. There is basically built-in editing happening before you even see the image. Professional cameras are different. They capture a much larger, more detailed file called a RAW image. A RAW file is not meant to look finished straight out of the camera. It often looks flatter, softer, or less colorful at first because it is holding onto all that information so I can have full control over the final edit. This is actually a good thing. It means I can bring back detail in the sky, adjust the colors more naturally, fix lighting issues, and create a finished image that has much more depth and quality than a quick phone photo. But it also means the images need time and care before they are ready.

What Happens Before You Get Your Gallery

After your session, I carefully sort through the images and remove duplicates, blinking shots, awkward expressions, and anything that does not meet my final standard. Then I begin the editing process.

This can include:

• Color correction

• Skin tone adjustments

• Straightening horizons

• Removing small distractions when needed

• Softening harsh lighting

• Cropping and fine-tuning the composition

• Making sure the full gallery feels cohesive

Each final image gets attention. Some galleries are easier than others, and some take extra time depending on the lighting, wind, location, outfits, weather, or how many people were in the session.

Beach sessions especially can be tricky because the light changes fast, the sand and water reflect color, and sunset tones can shift dramatically within minutes. That is part of what makes them so beautiful, but it is also why editing them well takes patience.

Finishing Touches Are Worth Waiting For

I know waiting can be hard, especially when you are excited to see your photos. But I would rather take the time to do them right than send something that does not fully represent my work.

Your photos are more than files on a screen. They are memories of your family, your children, your vacation, your season of life, or a milestone you wanted to remember. I want them to feel special when you open your gallery. Thank you for trusting me with that process and for allowing me the time to create images that I am proud to deliver and that you will love for years to come.

Your gallery is worth the wait.
